Hello, Nessie

the nessie hunter's diaries

Are you ready for my tale set in the Scottish Highlands? Tessa inherits her great-grandfather’s journals. He was a Loch Ness monster hunter. He spent his entire life chasing the legend, intent on proving Nessie existed.

Tessa is a marine biologist and was enthralled by his tales of something in the deep. She doesn’t think it’s a monster, per se, but perhaps a large fish yet undiscovered or some other aquatic marvel. She’s determined to prove her great-grandfather saw something and wants to spend her time in Scotland connecting with the man she barely knew but who inspired her to go into her career.

The book released August 29th. It is part of the Our House on Heather Wynd series. Be sure to check out the books leading up to The Nessie Hunter’s Diaries, starting next week with Anna Jensen’s release. Anna is the driving force behind the series. You’re going to love her tale.

the lipstick diaries

the lipstick diariesDearest Readers,

(Skip right to the link to get this book free today – 8/5 – only)

I appreciate you more than you’ll ever know. Many of you don’t know that about five or six years ago, I was ready to walk away from writing. I knew I’d still write, but I’d decided that it would just be my little hobby. I’d gotten too close to success a few too many times, been orphaned by a few too many publishers, saw things in the industry I didn’t like, and was just kind of done with not having a regular, dependable paycheck.

I even went out and got an outside job for a while. I hated every minute of it. I was praying about what God would have me do, and about that time I got sicker than I’ve ever been in my life. The doctor knew it was a virus, but it was an unclassified one. I think I stayed in bed for a week straight and I felt really bad for another two weeks and tired for months after. During that time, my work decided they were cutting hours and ultimately I made the decision that I wasn’t going back.

So, I prayed for God to guide me and show me what he would have me do. And, as often happens, I didn’t get an immediate answer. Over time, I realized he still wanted me to write, but my focus needed to shift on why I was writing. I gained some business clients and that took care of the more reliable income to meet my needs to live. So, this freed me up to work on fiction for another reason and as I was given scripture and words through friends, pastors, and other sources, I began to realize that I had been given an opportunity to write with a clearer message about my beliefs and God’s word.

I began to realize that if I could touch just one person’s life with a book, that I was working for God’s kingdom. Sometimes it would be a fundamental truth – salvation. Sometimes it would be more subtle, such as a message that God works all things for good for those who love him and live for him. Sometimes it would be to cheer up someone who was hurting. I began to rework older books and write new ones with that ONE person in mind.

You see, when one of my readers messages me on Facebook, leaves a review, or sends me an email, I know I’ve reached that one person. I even had a review last year that on the surface was not a nice review. However, it said that the book talked about God a lot. Well, that was my point with the book, so after reflection I decided that was the best review I’d had that year. The reader may not have liked it, but she got the point of it. That was my ultimate goal. I love five star reviews as much as the next writer, but they are secondary to the message.

So, when I say I love and appreciate my readers, I mean it. If it is one reader, then I know that God sent you to me for a specific reason and that there is some message in my book for you. If it is 10,000 readers, then God sent each one to my book for a reason as well. In the end, it doesn’t matter if it is one of you reading this or 10,000 of you. It only matters that God is able to use it for His purposes.

I love you and I hope you enjoy this free promotion of THE LIPSTICK DIARIES. While not a blatantly inspirational book, it is clean and has a good message behind it. If you have a group of friends you love, I think you’ll enjoy it.

Love,

Lori

Cupid’s Quest – Book # 1 in Cupid’s Crossing Series

Dear Readers,

I have a release date for the first book in my Cupid’s Crossing series. Cupid’s Quest will be released February 14, 2016. Valentine’s Day! This is my first inspirational contemporary romance. My other inspiration is Dear Viking, a historical novel that will be re-released soon.

I have totally fallen in love with the characters in this book. It is actually going to be really hard to choose who to write the next story about. One thing is certain, though. The nursing home residents, who are so crazy and make this book fun, will reappear.

Below is the back cover blurb. I’ll be planning some online tours as the release date nears.

Love,

Lori

Cupid’s Quest
by Lori Soard
Book # 1 in the Cupid’s Crossing Series

The only life Gracie has ever known has been the nursing home and the residents who are like family to her. Now, she risks losing it all and her friends scattering to different homes if she can’t come up with the money to save the business.

Between caring for his ailing mother and running the family farm, Brandt is stretched thin. Too thin. When his mother begs him to enter a local scavenger hunt, win the prize money, and convert the farm into an orchard, he knows he can’t refuse her anything, so he reluctantly agrees.

While seeking clues to the scavenger hunt, Gracie and Brandt keep bumping into each other. Gracie’s always had a crush on him that keeps her from stringing two coherent words together. Brandt doesn’t understand why she dislikes him so much she won’t even talk to him. If the nursing home residents would settle down and stop getting into crazy shenanigans long enough, the two might figure out that they have more than a little in common.

What a Character!

libby

Sometimes as a writer, it is almost as though characters come to life. Where these people are created from is hard to say. Maybe they resemble someone we know or once knew. Maybe they are a part of us and who we’d like to be. Maybe they are a combination of several people. Then again, just maybe they come to life in a make believe world that is created by the author and only she and her readers can go there.

Libby Comes to Life

I am currently working on an inspirational contemporary romance. It’s been slow going as I gather different, very specific pieces of information, complete research and write out various scenes. However, there is one part of my book that is not hard to write and that is the character of Libby.

You see, Libby is a secondary character. She really shouldn’t be a big part of the story. However, when she enters the room, trust me that she takes over the scene. Libby has no problem speaking her mind and speaking it far too frankly. Not everyone likes Libby. She can be pretty difficult and she drives my heroine in this new book crazy. Yet, my heroine, Gracie, sees Libby’s heart and she loves this other woman and considers her a dear friend.

Gracie wants to understand what makes Libby tick and so do I, so Gracie is always asking her questions. The only problem is that Libby is pretty tight-lipped about her past and what has made her the woman she is today.

  • Admirable
  • Feisty
  • Mean at times
  • Cranky
  • Smart
  • Cunning
  • Loyal
  • Strong
  • Hidden heart of gold

These are all words that apply to Miss Libby.

Libby’s Future

It’s hard to say how this book will turn out. Not only do I have to finish writing it, but then the editing process begins. My hope as a writer is that my editor and my readers will enjoy this character as much as I do, because I can’t imagine this story without this cooky old woman. Already, Libby has made me laugh, brought tears to my eyes, made me angry and made me like her. I can’t wait to introduce all of you to Libby one day very soon.

Love,

Lori

The Lipstick Diaries on Kindle

the lipstick diaries by lori soard

The Lipstick Diaries is now available on Kindle for only .99 for a limited time.

In grade school, Kate, Sarah and Rebecca discovered they were best friends. In seventh grade, they discovered makeup and began a diary of their important moments, “signed” in their own shade of lipstick. In high school, they discovered boys. Now the three are staring their thirtieth birthdays right in the face and determined to do something about where their lives are going. From mothers who gripe about their unmarried state to bosses who don’t take them seriously, to ticking biological clocks – the girls don’t want to care what others think but are tired of being seen as those almost-thirty-something singles. When an unwanted and definitely unexpected wedding invitation arrives, it sends the three of them on an adventure to save the blushing bride from the biggest mistake of her life. Using tests taught to them by Kate’s great-grandmother, they begin a wacky search for the perfect man. But even if one of them finds love, will the man be able to live up to the strict qualifications in the lipstick diaries?
